Manjaro has let their certificates expire 4 times now. It might seem like a very small issue, but it's extremely basic. Renewing certificates is extremely easy, and can be automated. Manjaro's inability to anticipate this or automate it isn't a good sign in terms of how seriously they take their security. Manjaro also has the habit of trying to release things that aren't ready, without checking with the upstream devs first. One example is with the Asahi Linux project, where Manjaro decided that having Apple Silicon support early would be cool, and shipped a broken kernel. 🤍 🤍 This is what led to the "don't ship it" manifesto from various developers, and probably what led the Bottles developer to also ask distros to not repackage their software without talking to them first. 🤍 🤍 Another problem that arose was the use of the AUR in Manjaro. Except the AUR doesn't really work well on Manjaro. Because the AUR assumes you're using the latest Arch software, with the latest versions Arch releases. Which Manjaro doesn't, because they hold back packages for testing. Which means that installing stuff from the AUR can seriously break your Manjaro system if you're not careful. Manjaro's AUR helper had a bug in it, that sent thousands of requests to the AUR's servers for each Manjaro user. This resulted in an involuntary DDOS attack, short for distributed denial of service 🤍 🤍 And then there are a few other issues. The project lead wanted to buy a new laptop using Manjaro funds, for about 2000€. The treasurer refused the expense, because it went against Manjaro's policy. This led to an argument with the project lead, and surfaced other expenses that hadn't been discussed according to Manjaro's Policy, and led the treasurer to leave the company, leaving the project lead in full control of all the community funds. 🤍 Then Manjaro announced that they would be shipping SoftMaker office by default instead of LibreOffice. Replacing an open source component with a proprietary one isn't really something you'd expect from a Linux distribution. 🤍 Manjaro has also often been accused of not contributing to upstream, especially on the mobile front. Someone involved in the Pine64 community points out that the fact that most mobile Pine64 projects are starting to falter is due to the fact that only Manjaro is a supported distribution for the Pinephone, where before there were a myriad of community editions, and that Manjaro doesn't really contribute to supporting the hardware. 🤍

Instead of just telling people "not to distro hop" and to figure it out for themselves, sometimes it's better just to tell them what to do. Just use Manjaro XFCE (🤍). When I install Linux on a normie's computer, I've always chosen Manjaro for them and that always works best. It's an easy to use distro, which has most all of the advantages of Arch Linux, including AUR access, rolling release for muh gaymes for gamers and if you git gud you can also play around with desktop environments and window managers easily. This video covers an easy method of setting up Arch Linux for gaming so that you can play both native and Windows developed games using Steam Proton or Lutris. Step 1. Install Latest GPU Driver. 🤍 Step 2. Install Wine Dependencies. 🤍 Step 3. Install Steam & Enable Proton. Open up a Terminal, and run the following command. sudo pacman -S steam Once installed, run Steam, install any updates, and sign into your Steam account. Enable Proton to work with all your Steam library by navigating to Steam / Steam Play / Advanced, and ticking the Enable Steam Play for all other titles. Reboot Steam once done Step 4. There may be times when you will need to create Windows Bootable USB on Manjaro Linux. For the purpose you will need a Flash Drive of 8 GB or more capacity. You can follow the below steps to create Windows bootable USB Flash Drive on Manjaro Linux: Step 1: Download Windows ISO file Step 2: Format the Flash Drive with NTFS filesystem using GParted tool Step 3: Open Terminal and use the following command: $ sudo dd bs=4M if=[source - Windows ISO file] of=[destination - flash drive path] status=progress oflag=sync After successful completion, the Flash Drive size will be around 5.3 GB. This is a tutorial on how to install Manjaro Linux alongside Windows 7 in its own isolated extended partition. There are detailed steps for installing the Linux GRUB boot loader to its own partition so that it does not take over the Windows boot loader. This is an ideal solution for those of you who would like to test a Linux OS without making a firm commitment to having it take over your system meanwhile maintaining your existing Windows OS. Is Manjaro the best XFCE4 Distro ever? Well maybe not.... I return because I like their upgrade pattern. I return because of how they implement their XFCE4 in a rolling release environment. I return to it because I am already a custom to it. Because I am familiar with the way Manjaro Linux does their rolling release schedule. They make Arch Linux simple to users. Problem is their forum sucks. But after all this is an Arch Linux based distro. If you have a problem, you can find answers to the Arch Linux Wiki or Google. Right now I am making Manjaro as my daily driver. Even though their forum and their developer sucks big time. To each it's own. If you love using windows, or you are a windows fanboy, go ahead and still use windows. We are not forcing any one to switch to Linux. It is your computer. You can use what operating system you want. But for me, I am still using Linux. Because I want to be free. Free from viruses, spyware, malware, and big companies tracking my data. So I use Linux. I have an old hardware. It extend the life of my laptop for another 25 or more years. It keeps the landfill clean of e-waste. And it's sustainable. Stop climate change, use Linux.

Another stable version of Manjaro has been announced as “[Stable Update] 2022-10-10 – Kernels, Octopi, Deepin, GlibC, Haskell, Python”. Stating that the release comes with some regular package updates, Philip Müller; He said they are in the phase of partnering with Slimbook 12 to bring the Titan Gaming Laptop to the community, including a €50 launch discount. Müller said that most of the kernels were updated; of this, 6.0stated that it includes the publication of the core series. Octopi currently comes with version 0.14.0 while Deepin is said to have received some updates. Some issues are said to have been fixed in GlibC, including locale reveal, while some KDE-git, Haskell and Python updates have been made as usual.
